The Rule of Law is Dead
My fellow Americans:
Today I write the heaviest words I have ever written: The rule of law is dead.
When the President of the United States directly orders criminal charges against James Comey, he is not simply targeting a political rival. He is not simply reaching for vengeance. He is destroying the very principle that makes a democracy possible: That no person is above the law.
The rule of law depends on independence. It depends on prosecutors and judges being free to weigh facts and evidence without fear of reprisal or subjugation. The moment a president dictates whom will be charged and with what crimes, we are no longer governed by law. We are governed by the will of one man.
That is the definition of dictatorship.
This is a conditional shift at the very foundation of our republic. America’s system of checks and balances is no longer in force. If the president can order charges against James Comey today, he can order them against you tomorrow. Against any journalist. Against any political opponent. Against anyone who dares oppose him.
We’re living through the moment where our republic can either collapse into tyranny or be rescued by the courage of its citizens. It is not enough to say “this is wrong.” It is not enough to wait for the next election. The law is gone unless we bring it back.
The Founders warned us that democracy is fragile. They handed us a responsibility to keep it. We must now rise to meet that responsibility. We must transition from protecting what remains of the nation to reclaiming what we’ve lost—from defense to offense. It’s time for the American people to impose ourselves upon our government. We must take to the streets with absolute conviction and declare in a unified voice that we will never submit. Show up by the millions in Washington and demand the end of this regime until it actually ends.
We can’t ask. We must order.
There is no time to waste, and there is no hiding from this danger. This is the moment: We either rise or we fall. Together.
In solidarity and defiance,
